The history of the creation of this album
This album features choir of the Church of St. Prophet Elijah whose young members are also enthusiastic collectors of song related to history and culture of Ukrainian folk.
This explains the unusual choice of the album's form, a compilation of spiritual music and Ukrainian folk and bardic songs.
On the first CD, you will be offered spiritual chants the chorister usually perform at worship services and spiritual music concerts.
These chants are the natural extension of the album's title, Choir of the Church of St. Prophet Elijah.
The second CD is comprised of Ukrainian folk and bardic songs. Their role in the choir's repertoire is to increase public awareness of Ukrainian folk tradition, partly forgotten yet profound and diverse.
In this compilation, there hardly is room for futile or frivolous music. All songs carry excellent harmony of lyrics and melody that serves to convey to our contemporaries the emotions of people who once, in the old bitter days, sang them for the first time.
This album does not aspire to achieve perfection in music; its goal is to attract wide circle of those who still hesitate to accept continued historical integrity of the Orthodox Church, Ukrainian folk and Ukrainian nation.
